About Us

Meet the Innkeepers

Clint, a New Jersey boy, and Juannie, a Canadian born, Newfoundland girl, met in Nova Scotia in the late 70's.Both have had many years in the service oriented business. Clint worked with Tauck Tours out of New York City and Juannie worked at The Digby Pines Resort while attending university.

When Clint finally persuaded Juannie to come to the U.S.A, they opened and operated a bicycle business in both Cape Coral and Naples, Florida for a combined total of over 25 years together serving the public and being very active in the cycling community. They organized and hosted numerous fundraising and cycling events and races and were the inspiration of many upcoming cyclists.

They moved to Bowling Green, KY in 2004 to semi-retire, fell in love with a 14 acre property which they had a vision that they could transform it into a beautiful estate. Two years later, the estate, now known as Spongie Acres was completed.

After the completion of that project, they spent a couple of years traveling the U.S.A. and Canada.

Missing the camaraderie of bicycle patrons who had become friends and the interaction with the vast number of wonderful people they had met while in retail, they decided it was time to create another great environment. And so, Spongie Acres Bed And Breakfast was born. Their love and passion for cars and bicycles were also inspirational in the creation of this venue.

"It's a beautiful property! Everyone who comes to visit absolutely loves it! The common observation being...It's a beautiful estate, more importantly, it feels like HOME."

Juannie loves to cook, create and decorate. Clint loves to talk cars and bicycles and do his landscaping. Both love meeting and listening to other people's stories.

"So many fun times and stories have been shared on this property. Our goal is to continue to create many more fun times and memories for all who come to visit."Follow the fun at Spongie Acres and visit us on FACEBOOK at www.facebook.com/SpongieAcresBedAndBreakfast Go ahead and LIKE our page.

"Loved it here!"

We recently spent a few days exploring south-central Kentucky, but this this B&B would've made the entire trip worth it! Clint and Juannie couldn't have been more gracious, and the breakfast was extraordinary! If only every B&B were this warm and luxurious...

"Spectacular"

5 on October 31, 2013

Clint and Juannie are outstanding hosts that pay attention to the tiniest details to make their guests feel welcome and comfortable. My husband and I recently stayed in the "Brassie Room" for two nights - to the king bed with plush linens, the large private bath with the softest towels or the size of the room itself, it exceeded our expectations. The breakfasts prepared by Juannie were delicious and the wonderful cookies she baked were always fresh and available. The grounds of Spongie Acres is breathtaking, and feels like a little piece of heaven. Spongie Acres and its hosts, Clint and Juannie, are a true asset to the Bed and Breakfast industry.…

"What a Delightful Place"

Wonderful location, beautiful rooms, gracious hosts. Every luxury and pampering amenity imaginable. All this and breakfast was an incredible feast for the eye and the pallet. Will go back soon and plan to take more friends too!

"Spongie Acres........inviting and wonderful"

Just spent three nights at the Spongie Acres Bed and Breakfast. Cannot say enough about this B&B. The full breakfasts were delicious and beautifully served. When Clint and Juannie meet you at the door, you know you are going to have a wonderful time. The home is spacious and rooms beautifully decorated. I had the Musician Room in the basement and loved it. October weather was perfect for enjoying their huge back porch. Had a wonderful relaxing weekend and definitely plan to stay there again in the near future...

"Slept and ate well here!"

Stayed two night in the Musicians room--very Clean and Comfy. We enjoyed two Wonderful Breakfasts made by Clint and Juannie. We also picnicked on their wonderful backyard patio. When they noticed we were going to drink out of paper cups they brought us wine glasses to use. Very Accommodating and cheerful people. It was fun to chat with Juannie's mom who was visiting from Nova Scotia. Beautiful Property!!!

"Don't miss out!"

We stayed in the "Brassie" room which has a king-sized bed. It was comfortable with soft sheets. The innkeepers are very kind and hospitable. The breakfast in the morning was delicious. I would look forward to staying here again (certainly over a hotel) whenever we are in the area and I would recommended this place to anyone.

"Lovely property, wonderful innkeepers!"

5 on May 04, 2013

My husband and I had such a relaxing stay at Spongie Acres. Clint and Juannie are so warm and friendly and the home is beautiful, clean and comfortable. I loved both the indoor and outdoor spaces and the breakfast was fabulous! We had lovely weather, so we were able to take long heavenly walks, but if the weather doesn't cooperate, they have a fabulous gym full of modern equipment. As much as we loved the home, our favorite part of the stay was getting to know Clint and Juannie. We found their property online, but when we left, they felt like old friends. We sure hope to go back.

"Our Local Retreat"

My husband and I had the most fantastic experience. We stayed in The Musician and was tremendously happy with both the room and the service. The innkeepers are exceptionally nice people that are both open and friendly. We had the house to ourselves that night and loved all the amenities and the room. Breakfast is fantastic and we plan on coming back multiple times again. :)

"Exceptional and Our Favorite Getaway!"

Your trip to Bowling Green is not complete without a stay at Spongie Acres B&B. The Innkeepers, Clint and Juannie make you feel welcome the minute you walk in. Juannie , makes the perfect breakfast fit for a king. You will awake to a unique and mouth watering aroma each morning. The innkeepers are well versed on all attractions. This inn has indoor parking for your car and a gift boutique. The King suit has a romantic balcony for star gazing and/or night time wine sipping. Quaint and quiet atmosphere; Do yourself a favor and stay for a while; you need at least three days to feel the character of this beautiful house. We love this house! There is one warning, once you stay at Spongie Acres B&B, you will forever see all other hotel rooms as "blah". Prepare to be spoiled. Bev & Keith Indianapolis, In

"The Place to stay in Kentucky!"

Reviewed October 16, 2013

I had the wonderful experience of visiting this gorgeous property and can't begin to say enough about it. Where to start : the property is inviting from the minute you pull up the drive, until you walk into the kitchen and feel instantly at home and every corner seems to have another surprise when it comes to furnishings. The hosts leave no detail undone from small comforts in your room, to sweet treats throughout your visit to suggestions on things to see and/or do. And to say Juannie is one heck of a cook almost doesn't do her abilities justice. The surrounding area, be it explored on foot, on bike or by car is perfect for relaxing and just enjoying the days. I really can't say enough about this amazing little B&B they have created -- so if you are looking for an escape, long term or just a long weekend, consider Kentucky and their place for sure. You'll feel spoiled beyond belief -- trust me!

We have visited Spongie Acres B&B many times and our last visit was August 10, 2013. The innkeepers, Clint and Juannie are simply the best and always make us feel one hundred percent at home. The house is gorgeous and beautifully decorated inside and out. We have stayed in many of the rooms and each one is very unique, specious, spotless, and quiet and the beds are extremely comfortable! You will get good night’s sleep. Spongie’s Pride is exquisite! It has its own private balcony and hot tub! The grounds are immaculately kept and overall without flaw. You will wake up to a mouth watering aroma as Juannie makes an amazing, perfect breakfast fit for a king! Warning: She makes delicious blueberry pancakes from scratch! You will not go hungry! Clint and Juannie are very helpful and knowledgeable about area restaurants, attractions and go above and beyond anything you would expect to make your stay is comfortable and pleasant as possible. There is also indoor parking for your car and a gift shop where Spongie’s Whimsicals adorable, handmade sock monkeys and a variety outfits can be purchased. We LOVE this house and our visits at Spongie Acres and always look forward to our next stay!

"Anniversary Retreat"

Reviewed August 19, 2013

My husband and I are Bowling Green residents, but were celebrating our 11th wedding anniversary and wanted to spend a romantic weekend without the kids. Spongie Acres was perfect. My husband and I were able to enjoy a peaceful weekend doing all the things we enjoyed doing before we had kids. After a long day of canoeing we checked in at Spongie Acres and were greeted by Juannie and Clint, the innkeepers. They were very inviting and great to get to know. We stayed in the Sponge Pride room and it was elegant and spacious.

Juannie is a creative genius! Her homemade cookies were delicious and the breakfast was plentiful and tasted as good as it looked. After breakfast we rented a couple of bikes and took a 10 mile ride along the countryside before we checked out. We enjoyed getting to know Juannie and Clint and appreciated them opening their home to us for a night. Also, it was great to see Juannie's passion for creativity displayed through the variety of handmade sock monkeys in the gift shop.

If you are looking for a peaceful, elegant place to stay Spongie Acres is for you.

We recently spent a few days exploring south-central Kentucky, but just this B&B alone would have made the entire trip worth it! Our hosts Juannie and Clint had recently renovated the house, which was set on a large piece of farmland outside Bowling Green. The inn offered luxurious accommodations in a rural setting, and Juannie and Clint couldn't have been more hospitable.

Juannie's breakfast was a highlight of the trip: fruit-granola parfait, scrambled eggs, turkey bacon (thoughtfully prepared for me, as I don't eat pork), toast. After breakfast, Clint and Juannie gave us a tour of the entire property. Homemade cookies in hand, we said goodbye to our hosts...

Athough we were able to stay for only a single night, it was one of the most enjoyable nights we've spent anywhere in the U.S. This B&B is beautiful inside and out, ultra-comfortable and in a gorgeous setting. Clint and Juannie, owners of Spongie Acres, are very nice and go above and beyond to make you feel pampered and your stay as comfortable as possible. They had excellent suggestions for a dinner destination and other attractions. The rooms are lovely, right down to the comfy robes, and the house has all the amenities anyone could desire. Breakfast was incredible! Juannie is a marvelous cook. We will be back and we are spreading the word about Spongie Acres to all of our friends. We hope to organize a group stay with friends sometime in the near future. If you find yourself in Bowling Green, KY, or near that area, we would sincerely recommend Spongie Acres for your stay.

"Excellent"

The location of the bed and breakfast was prime and Spongie Acres overall was stunning- incomparable to chain hotels or motels. The service was amazing and friendly, and breakfast was simply delicious- I definitely recommend this bed and breakfast to everyone. It is located in a prime location in Bowling Green so you don't have to drive far for food or activities, but out of the main clog of the main street. If you are searching for a beautiful room, great hospitality, and scenic acres, this is your place, whether it be for a night or a few!

"Impressive!"

Reviewed August 17, 2013

B&B's are always a bit of adventure. You've got to expect almost anything, usually good, but sometimes not what you might call normal. My wife and I have stayed in B&B's in Europe and America and have enjoyed even the most cramped and ones with bathrooms down the hall you share with three other families. Then we stayed (regrettably only) one night at Spongie Acres (last week). We did not expect the gorgeous big room and bath suite, the large and lovingly-care-for grounds, warm reception by Juannie and Clint, and pleasant common living room (big TV and nice company were provided). Of course they served us a great breakfast to match. If you stay anywhere else in the BG area, you are missing out on a treat with a capital "T".

"Great "Home Away From Home" Experience"

Reviewed August 13, 2013

I arrived at the beautiful Spongie Acres estate last Monday, August 05, and stayed until Thursday, August 08. I took a trip down to Bowling Green with my aunt to see the area, and we wanted to stay somewhere other than a "run of the mill hotel chain."

From the minute we pulled up to the front gates of Spongie Acres, I knew we had made the right accommodations! The fenced in area of the estate must be upwards of 8 acres, and it is meticulously landscaped. The only place I have seen better grass is on a golf course!! Also, if you are staying with a big group, there is plenty of parking on the grounds (even enough room for a FEW RV's).

Upon arrival, Clint and Juannie (inn keepers/ owners) were very friendly and well mannered. They showed us to our rooms which were in pristine condition. I chose to stay on the lower level in "The Captain" room because I like to go out at night, and then be able to sleep in a bit in the morning undisturbed. There is only one other room on the lower level, which was vacant when I was there. So, I basically had the entire lower level of the house to myself, which includes: an exercise room (with air hockey!), full bathroom, kitchen, living room with a huge 60" TV and surround sound, and a separate pool table room with more TV's and a bar area!! This was great because a couple nights I got in very late, and I was able to relax in my own personal living room and watch a movie on the big screen while enjoying a couple beers!

The next best thing was waking up to a delicious home cooked meal every morning! Juannie really does a great job at providing the best home cooked meals you could ask for when away from home. The first morning I was there, she made blueberry pancakes from scratch! Amazing! Along with eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, fresh fruit, juice, milk, and fresh ground coffee!! Needless to say I ate like a pig, was completely stuffed, and wanted to return to my nice cozy bed.

They also were great at recommending great places for dinner. They told us about the local Shogun hibachi restaurant, and if you are looking for dinner and a show, this is where you want to go. Amazing food, and a great night of fun for the whole family. We really appreciated that they recommended that to us because we definitely would have missed out on that experience.

Clint is also a huge bicycle enthusiast, and he has quite an impressive collection of high end bicycles out in the massive, modern barn on the premises. I decided to go with him on a ride the one day when my aunt was out shopping. It was a terrific experience! He took me on a nice casual ride through the back country roads showing me all the different farms, and lovely views. It was also great because I got some much needed exercise while having a blast!

Well, I could go on and on at what great people Clint and Juannie are, and the quality of service you get when you stay at Spongie Acres, but I think you get the point by now. If you are looking for a great "home-styleaccommodation" in a gorgeous home while on vacation in the Bowling Green area, you would be a fool to stay anywhere else.

We have had three wonderful stays at Spongie Acres Bed and Breakfast (October 2012, April 2013, June 2013) and we cannot wait to return! The innkeepers, Juannie and Clint, make us feel at home from the moment we arrive and they go above and beyond to ensure that our visits to the Bowling Green area are enjoyable. The accommodations are immaculate and relaxing, the breakfasts are scrumptious and plentiful, the grounds are gorgeous and peaceful, and the garage is spotless and secure. This is definitely a five star accommodation; an asset to the Bowling Green community

We stayed in Spongies Pride during an annual Diesel event that I attend every year from the moment I checked in both Juannie and Clint made us feel right at home and showed us around this beautiful B&B our room was even better than I had imagined. We woke up kind of late as we had been fairly busy the night before visiting Nashville and even thou we were sure that we would have to get breakfast someplace in town when we finally did wake up and get going Juannie was more than happy to serve us breakfast and let me tell you she makes one AMAZING meal more food than I could handle we all talked over breakfast and got to know a little bit more about them and they got to know a little bit more about us they truly take the time to get to know their guest as best as they can and really make you feel at home not just like they want you money. While I was at the event I was attending I had a pretty serious problem with my vehicle and ended up having to have a friend bring us back late that night in the morning they didn't see our vehicle and being the type of people they are they called me a few time to make sure that we were alright, that morning over breakfast while talking to Clint and calling around I thought for sure I would have to fly back down the following week to get my vehicle but Clint took the time to make calls and do everything he could to try and make sure I could make it home even offering to drive us to town to get anything we needed luckily he got us in contact with a local shop that just fortunately enough had the part I needed to get going that kind of service is something I never would have imagined or expected from anywhere and it was surely something that they didn't have to do but I am very appreciative and cannot thank them enough for everything they did for us the hospitality and service as well as everything in between was above and beyond my wildest expectations you couldn't ask for better people or a nicer place to stay and I look forward to coming back and visiting next spring

"Like being in your own home-probably better!"

Reviewed June 28, 2013

We were most of the way through a 2-week, 2500-mile trip to NC and KY in our Corvette and stopped here so we could see the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green. This place was absolutely the right choice. Juannie and Clint could not have been more friendly and accommodating. We stayed in the Musician room on the lower level, and as others have noted, it's like having your own house! It's huge, has a private bath, an exercise room, a giant TV and lounge area, even a regulation-size pool table. (You probably don't have all of those things in your home; us either).

The room was very comfy, everything is spotlessly clean, and Clint and Juannie are two of the nicest folks you are likely to meet anywhere. They treat you as if you had all known each other for your entire lives. And their two dogs are just as friendly as they are.

And for all you Corvette folks out there: You can house your cherished car in Clint's gigantic "barn" (wait ‘til you see it!) and he even rents time on his lift if you want to check out what's underneath your car. You will have serious workshop envy when you leave.

Breakfast - served and cooked by Juannie - was huge and yummy, including a fruit cup appetizer, pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee, juice, etc. You probably will want to put lunch off ‘til mid-afternoon.

We expect to return to BG again sometime in the future. This is where we'll stay - no point in even investigating anywhere else. You probably don't need to either - just give 'em a call and hope they aren't booked solid.

"Gorgeous home-Very Gracious Hosts!"

We stayed in Spongie's Pride...what a room! I can only imagine a nicer room if rooms at The Biltmore would become available to rent. Juannie and Clint were more than willing to see that we were comfortable in every aspect of our stay, and they even allowed us to take their dogs on our walk in the back pasture. You will be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful property; the owners almost instantly become your friends, a rare quality in this day and age. Our experience at Spongie Acres was overwhelmingly positive in every regard. Recommended to everyone!

"Beautiful home with warm and gracious hosts!"

Reviewed May 4, 2013

Spongie Acres was the perfect place to relax. Juannie warmly welcomed us upon arrival, even though we arrived earlier than I estimated. We were in the Musicians room and had the entire lower level to ourselves, which included a large living area with a big screen TV and an exercise room with much better equipment than you get in a hotel. The room and bathroom with steam shower were wonderful.

The breakfast was delicious and much more food that I could even eat. Every part of our stay was wonderful, but getting to know Clint and Juannie was the best of all. My husband loved getting to take a tour of Clint's bicycles and toys. I took a long walk around the area and it was heavenly.

The property has a nice front porch and a huge back patio, fabulous for relaxing when the weather is nice.

We love going to bed and breakfasts, but like finding new ones and rarely ever return. This is one that I feel confident we will want to go back. It was balm for my soul.
